The two construction companies were the only local companies awarded the chance to bid on the five-year contract that will be handled by the Air Force Lifecycle Management Center at Wright-Patt, the Department of Defense announced Tuesday.

Protective Coating Inc. of Dayton is in a joint adventure with Better Built Construction Service on the contract.

Thirteen companies applied for the contract, according to the DOD.

  • Skanska Program Gives Small Firms Health Care Insight

Business is about relationships, as any business owner will tell you. And nowhere is that more true than in the construction industry.

But it’s also about know-how. And very few corporations will hire a buddy to build something if that friend can’t deliver.

That’s why 12 local business owners were so pleased to be part of Skanska USA’s Health Care Building Blocks earlier this year.

Health Care Building Blocks is aimed at small contractors who want to work in an active hospital setting, where Skanska does quite a bit of work itself. The program has been launched in four cities so far – Detroit, Cleveland, Nashville and, most recently, Cincinnati. Roughly 75 companies have graduated from the program in all, including the 12 recent Cincinnati graduates.

“It was great training,” said Emmett Drane, President of DFS -Diversified Facility Solutions, which provides construction management and general construction services. “Skanska shared with participants method, ways and mean of the how they approach health care construction.”

  • BUILD YOUR FUTURE - Construction Clubs & Summer Camp: Middle School Construction Careers Outreach Program

DFS partnered with The Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board's (SWORWIB) Build Your Future Program. We provided both labor and material donation in support of their Summer Camp.

Build Your Future is a middle school outreach program that exposes students to the rewards of a career in construction and stresses the importance of good math and language skills, and the necessity of graduating from high school.

It is setup as an 8 week after-school Construction club where students work on everything from site preparation to mixing concrete and pouring the foundation, building a brick wall, constructing a frame wall, pipefitting for electrical and plumbing work, wiring, drywalling and painting.

A total of 167 sixth, seventh, and eight graders participated this year.

    Participating Cincinnati Public Schools:

    • Ethel Taylor (Millvale)
    • Quebec Heights (Price Hill)
    • Winton Hills, Midway (Western Hills)
    • Bond Hill
    • Rothenberg (Over-the-Rhine)
    • Oyler (Price Hill)

  • For Immediate Release:  WPAFB-MACC Eight (8) Cincinnati / Dayton area companies to share in $100M construction deal at Wright-Patt

Eight (8) construction services firms will get a shot at as much as $100 million in work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

DFS -Diversified Facilities Solutions, of Cincinnati was included in the five (5) year contract, the Defense Department announced late Tuesday.  Eight (8) construction services firms will get a shot at as much as $100 million in work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.  These eight companies will be the only companies eligible for project work under this MACC contract award.

The work includes a broad range of maintenance, repair, renovations and new construction.

This is a massive contract that could provide a steady stream of work to those companies successful at bidding on individual tasks. The companies are also likely to rely on many subcontractors from the Cincinnati-Dayton area, which would bode well for the regional   economy.
